It is that time of the sim season again. Player rating discussion time. I'll keep track of players listed and post some players I feel deserve a change here.

Toronto Raptors Bargnani (74) should go to a 77-78. He had a very nice and well-rounded season, and I think will continue to get better. Anthony Randolph (66) should go to a 70-72 right now. He has been showing some huge potential and did perform when given a chance. Kapono (70) might deserve more like a 72-73 but I am not personally going to argue hard there.
Philly 76ers Eric Gordon (76) was really really good last year while starting. Yahoo had him in their top 50 for the total season, and he had the first month or so where he wasn't even starting. I'd put him at 78-79 right now. Russell Westbrook (68) needs to be about 74-75 right now, and will go higher after this season. Dalembert (77) could be a little high? I wouldn't go lower than 74-75 if he does get lowered though. Last year was pretty poor for him.
NY Knicks Diaw (75) should be a 78. He brings so much to the table and really started to revive himself last year in Charlotte. Balkman (64) really should be in the upper 60's or at a 70. He's never going to be a star but that doesn't mean he is a poor player. 64 is an insult. Songalia (63) produces alright when he plays...63 is far too low for anyone that actually produces at all when put in a game. I'd say like 66-68.
NJ Nets Mayo (80) was rated really highly his rookie season, and doesn't need much increase as of yet. Maybe to an 82. Dampier (67) should really be a 70-72. He's not a special player but he does what he does fairly well - rebound/blocks/defensive presence.
Boston Celtics Garnett (97) he is just not a 97 anymore. Still a great player, but I don't see how he's above a 94 at this time...Even that sounds a little high to me right now. TJ Ford (80) Not really sure if he's done enough to remain at an 80...I'd probably have him in the 77-78 range. Finley (76) Don't see him as a 76 anymore either...maybe a 73 Perkins (73) should be a 75 I think. He's a prototypical C basically...not gifted offensively but the rest he does well.
Chicago Bulls Kenyon Martin (83)...don't see how he's an 83...maybe 78-80. Billups (83) should be an 86-87.
Cleveland Cavaliers Derrick Rose (79) probably did enough to be an 81...not higher yet IMO though...he probably will perform well enough this year to get further increase. Nene (76) should be in the 79 range. Troy Murphy (76) had an incredible season. He's finally getting used right. While being a really great 3-pt shooter last year, he was also in the top 5 in rebounding. I'd put him at a 78. J.R. Smith (75) maybe should be 77-78.
Detroit Pistons Interesting team...Is Pierce (91) better than Melo (90) better than Joe Johnson (89)? They are close together IRL...just not sure if I like this order. Johnson was actually the best of the 3 last season. Not sure what to do here to be honest, but it probably needs looked at.
Pacers Don't really see much here...
Bucks Stephen Jackson (80) could go to an 82-83 IMO. Stackhouse (75) is way too high. I don't see how he's even a 70 anymore.
Hawks DWade (93) I'd like to see him above Garnett, for example. So raise him to a 95 or drop Garnett even more. Peja (81) was more like a 75 last year...though I'd probably only lower him to a 78 for now.
Bobcats Yao Ming (87) Every year I ask for him to be rated higher, so here I go again. I'd say he's an 89-90...though his durability needs to be lower obviously. David Lee (77) should be about an 80. Led the league in double doubles, was top 5 in rebounding in the league, scored decently (16+ ppg). His Defense is not great, but he does do a lot of things well. Tyrus Thomas (76) not sure I would raise him yet, but he did come in at rank 44 in Yahoo's ratings last year. Rudy Fernandez (71) performed like a 75 last year, and I hear he's looked even better so far this year. I'd put him around 75. Marc Gasol (68) came in at 81 in Yahoo last year. He should definitely be about a 75 also right now.
Heat Lebron James (97) Does he deserve the 99 yet? Doesn't mean his game is perfect, but he's so good at so many things I think he really might deserve the 99. Pau Gasol (86) should be in the 87-89 range. Van Horn (66) should be lowered even more...retired players should continue to get lowered every year.
Magic Tony Parker (86) I'd like him about 87 or 88 but no higher. Ben Gordon (82) I've been against him for awhile, but last year he really made some noticeable improvements. I'd say he's an 84-85 right now. Biedrins (77) might deserve a little higher...78-79...it is always tough to tell in a Donnie Nelson team but Biedrins is very good when Donnie has him in...he should just be in more often. Crazy donnie. Bonzi Wells (75) not sure what he's up to. Doesn't seem like he's still a 75 but I dunno.
Wizards Luol Deng (81) I continue to not see how he's rated so highly. I'd put him at a 78 right now...

Nuggets Marion (94) is way too high. He's still a good player (ranked 44 in Yahoo last year) but he should be more like an 85.
TWolves Iverson (87) seems a little high. I'd put him around 84 for now. Thad Young (73) I'd like him around a 74-75 for now. JJ Redick (67) finally showed that he can produce in the NBA...I'd bump him to low 70s. Jalen Rose (66) needs to go down...retired. Crosher (68) is retired, right? if so, go down.
OKC Thunder TMac (89) not sure he is an 89 anymore. If so, lower his durability big time. He could probably be a 86-87 though. Calderon (82) should probably be rated as well or better than Odom (85). I'd put both at an 84 and keep Shaq at 84 too. Wilson Chandler (74) maybe is a 75-76 but that's a small move right now. Duhon (74) probably should be 77. His #'s would've looked better if he hadn't worn down at the end of the season after playing an incredible amount of minutes for the whole year. The Knicks put out like 7 or 8 men a night max for awhile... Ariza (70) should be about 76
Blazers Brandon Roy (85) should be an 89 Oden makes it harder and harder to keep him at a 78...I might lower him just a couple points to a 76 for now, but if he doesn't put it together this year I'd lower him more. Kevin Love (75) was the best offensive rebounder int he league last year, and shows good talent. I'd like him at a 76-77 Rondo (74) should probably be about 79-80 Thornton (72) is probably a 74-75 Blatche (68) still has more potential to grow into, but he's already a 73-75 guy. Terrence Williams (68) should probably be a little higher. Przybilla (64) was really good in his time last year. I'd say he's like a 73 or 74.
Jazz Marbury (78) needs to go down to 72 or so. Budinger (74) is a little high right now in that draft class. I'd say a 71 ish. Millsap (72) should be like 78-79. Ronnie Brewer (70) should be about 74
Mavericks Dirk (91) I might raise him to 93-94. I'll sum up my reasoning by saying, I would rather have Dirk than Garnett right now...so either lower Garnett more or put Dirk up a little. Jameer Nelson (75) is probably about a 77 now. Brook Lopez (72) should really be like a 78-79. Carl Landry (66) is probably like a 74-75 now.
Rockets Josh Howard (88) needs to be like 83-85 now...88 way too high. Zo Mourning (70) needs to be a 65 and then go down every year after. Penny Hardaway (68) needs to be 65 and keep getting lowered
Grizzlies Eddy Curry (77) should probably be a 73-74. What do we want to do with Childress? Bowen (70) retired this year...probably should be lowered Moon (68) should be like 74 Dudley (67) should be about 72-73 Chalmers (64) should be about 72-74. Aaron Brooks (64) should be in the 74-75 range.
Hornets Gooden (77) probably needs lowered to a 75. He might pick up his game now that he's starting in Dallas...but last year was not good at all. Francisco Garcia (70) is more like a 74-75 type of guy.
Spurs Granger (82) needs to be a 90. He was a top 10 last year and should continue to be that. Hughes (81) needs to drop to a 77 or lower. Ben Wallace (81) needs to drop to a 75 or lower. Smush Parker (74) should go way down...67? Boykins (72) didn't play at all this year...retired? he needs lowered for sure. JaVale McGee (67) showed enough to be about a 71
GS Warriors Kirilenko (85) probably should be an 83-84 for now. Mo Williams (78) could be an 80-81. CWebb (77) is out of the league...he's a 65
LA Clippers Brand (90) may be just a little high...probably should be 87-88 for now. Devin Harris (79) is an 82ish for now. Nocioni (78) is high...should be about 75. Jason Williams (72) is coming back this year...but I think that might be a little high...maybe just down to 70 but I won't argue if he stays where he is. Nate Robinson (71) should be 75ish. Ryan Anderson (68) should be in the 72 range and will likely go higher.
LA Lakers Farmar (69) should be about a 72 Zaza (66) is probably more like a 71 Turiaf (66) should be like 73 Louis Williams (66) is probably more like a 69-71. Also got the starting PG gig in Philly IRL...we'll see what he makes of it. Courtney Lee (62) is probably a 73 now...may go higher now that he's starting in NJ (Draft Rights on Lakers) Thabeet (68) should be higher... Kyle Weaver (??) should be about a 70.
Phoenix Suns McDyess (78) maybe a little high. More like a 76? Jeff Green (74) should be in the 77 range. Cassell (72) is out of the league...65. Garbajosa went overseas right? He's a 72 now, maybe should be lowered? I dunno what to do with overseas guys yet. Jasikevicius (69) is overseas also.
Sac Kings Kevin Martin (83) should be about 86. Hinrich (81) may be a little high...maybe like 79 instead? Scola (74) should be a little higher...77 ish. Salmons (69) should be about a 78. Stuckey (69) should be higher...75ish? Azubuike (67) is underrated for sure...more like a 74-75 type. Jason Thompson (66) should be about a 70.

Why should Yao Ming get a higher rating if he didnt do better this season and wont do better next season if he isnt even going to play? He's been underrated for awhile. I have the same opinion in any league I'm in that an 87 is too low. Yahoo had him ranked #7 in their system last year...87 is too low for that production.

Wilcox (78) should be more like a 74-75 until he produces again. Leon Powe (65) needs to be about a 71-72. Chris Paul (89) should be a 94 or so. Jermaine O'Neal (87) should probably come down a little to 84ish. Andre Miller (79) is probably deserving of a 80-81.
NETS - We still need to update all of the western conference "roster pages". Lots of FAs are still on their old teams' roster page, whereas guys in the Eastern Conference are not on their old teams' roster pages.

I did check his stats. He improved his FG% by about 5 points, which is incredibly rare. The other stats decreased but only very slightly.
And I'm not saying that JUST last year means he should go up. If you read my post, I said "he's been underrated for awhile". So, as that says, it's my opinion that he should have been up higher for awhile now. I've been campaigning for it every year.
And also as I said, his overall stats for the season last year had him as the #7 player in the NBA on Yahoo's Fantasy rankings, which are based on numbers, which are what we base our ratings on.

I have to agree he is the best center in the league when healthy. Maybe a small bump but he's so injury prone it is hard to really get behind a dramatic increase.
Also, I really am not in favor of changing a rookie's ratings until they actually step on the court and prove/disprove rating bumps/decreases.

Shouldn't Russell Westbrook be close to Rose in terms of ratings? After all they were close in the RoY race. 78-79?

Well maybe he doesnt have luck against Rockets, but common, who would u rather have on ur team, Yao or Dwight?
and as I always say about Yao, a guy who is 7 ft tall and gets blocked by nate Robinson never deserves an increase lol

You can't hold that against him. One block. So since Nate dunked over Dwight, does that mean Dwight sucks too? I don't even like Yao, but I don't like how you're saying Yao doesn't deserve an increase because of one block.

Post by Los Angeles Lakers on Sept 27, 2009 16:00:43 GMT -5
it's not luck HOU, it's facing up to your competition and head to head Dwight Howard falters against Yao, you can't hold that against Yao because of one block that Nate Robinson made.
it's the Chris Paul VS Deron Williams arguement.
Many think that CP3 is the best PG and much better OVERALL player then Deron Williams, but if you look head to head you can clearly see that Williams is the better PG.
it's a luck issue when the PLAYER dominates the team, but the TEAM loses.
in this case it's not a luck thing because Howard falters against Yao, and it's shown with the 2-7 record.
and the one time Yao missed game with injury in the 06/07 season where Mutombo replaced him the Orlando Magic still lost.
Kobe posterized Dwight Howard, should we hold that against Howard and say he's not a good defender, Vince Carter posterized Zo are we going to say that Alonzo Mourning still isn't a great player just because of one posterization.
you just can't hold one play against players, you gotta look at the body of work.
even I MAKE FUN OF YAO with calling him SOFT and a STICK FIGURE, but you can't deny the man has talent.

The guy is too soft, and DUMB, thats why he gets humilliated, I just hate the way that he plays, trying to make sky hooks and so on...he should work out like a motha****a and get more dominating, if he do that maybe he can be good...IMO the only good "soft" center was Abdul Jabbar, and I mean really good (at least that I can remember now)

|
Post by Oklahoma City Thunder on Sept 28, 2009 7:36:22 GMT -5
I sure wouldn't classify Jabbar as "soft". He certainly had some finesse moves (like the sky hook) but he was a warrior who never backed down from anyone.
