The Clippers would like to bring Elton Brand back to the organization. Our contract will be structured the way it is because of a couple things. 1) Elton has been injured IRL a couple of times recently. 2) We know his rating will go down a little bit. Because of those two things, the money will not be what a 90 rated player could usually get. We will guarantee the 1st two years as a show of good faith, but we will have a Team Option in year 3 in case he is injured even more IRL. We will also put in a player option in year 4 as a show of good faith and proof that we value Elton Brand as a player and as a star on our team.
Year 1: $12,000,000 Year 2: $12,500,000 Year 3: $13,000,000 (Team Option) Year 4: $13,000,000 (Player Option)

My client acknowledges his injury problems of late and understands he would have to take a pay cut wherever he went. He likes playing with the Clippers even though they didn't and probably won't win much this year. Mr. Brand wants to play for a winner. He knows signing with the Clippers will instantly improve their team but he wants to go to a team he won't have to hope signs another big time player just to have a shot at finishing above .500. The money isn't the issue it is the fact that this team is in a rebuilding mode. Again, feel free to offer him a contract in free agency as anything can and seems to happen.
