I thought that I would start some discussion by talking about the first real blockbuster of the season...
91 | Chris Bosh $15,779,912 | $17,149,243
75 | Jameer Nelson $5,000,000 | $6,000,000 | $6,000,000 | $7,000,000 | $7,000,000
Dallas 2009 1st Rounder(#25)
Total Incoming:16,779,912
Total Outgoing:20,779,912
Detroit Sends:
90 | Carmelo Anthony $15,779,912 | $17,149,243 | $18,518,575
72 | Lindsey Hunter $1,000,000 | $1,500,000
Bucks 2009 1st Rounder(#12)
Total Incoming:20,779,912
Total Outgoing:16,779,912
Who do you think won this deal?
Dallas - Received the SF that they have been needing since last season. Having to start Dirk in the SF spot did not prove well for Dallas, and with this deal they get a SF with talent that can score...which is exactly what they need. They can now put Dirk at the PF position. They also lose cap space with this deal (in order to go after a big name free agent) and the #12 overall pick in the draft. The FA market should be a good one this offseason and the mavs use this as the first step to clear enough space to sign a big name free agent. What free agent would not want to come play with the likes of Manu, Melo, Dirk, and Brook Lopez?
Detroit - The Pistons had the exact opposite problem of the mavs. They were loaded with Sg/Sf and had to play Melo at the PF position. This did not work to well, and they now get a true PF in Chris Bosh. He will anchor the PF position for years to come. The Pistons also acquire Jameer Nelson, who did not perform well in Dallas, but a change of scenery will probably do him wonders. They do give up the #12 pick in this draft though, which is loaded with talent.
