Usually when you hear the quote "From Sweet to Elite" you think of the NCAA Basketball Tourament going from the "Sweet 16" to "The Elite 8" but that is the first thing Miami Heat GM Charles Boen said when he heard the leage office approved his trade with the San Antiono Spurs that brings Jason Kidd to Miami. "Every since we traded Cuttiono Mobley to Washington for Big Z, I have been nervous I made a bad move but seeing Jason Kidd in that Black and Red makes it all worth while." Boen has been trying to trade Z for a guard since acquiring him. Stephen Jackson, Devin Harris, Hedo Turkoluo, Allen Iverson (similar package as Kidd), and Joe Johnson (for Camby) along with Kidd have all been on his wish list. He says Jason was the top person on his list. "Jason is the PG we've needed since I came to Miami" Said Boen with a smile on his face "Stephon did a good job but really wasn't what we needed and Kidd expires as well, though we did lose some cap in the deal."
The deal does hurt the cap a tad, but Boen is known for his ability to get rid of bad contracts. This moves does create a dilema and it has to do with his newest PG Jason Kidd. Miami now has the dilema do we let Kidd expire or do we resign him despite his age? Before it was a well known fact Marbury was going to have to really really take a pay cut to be in Miami next year. When asked Boen said "I'm not worry about that, let's focus on winning a championship." Before we could dream but now it is in sight." Jason Kidd was also all smiles when he walked in Miami's Practice Facilities seeing Lebron James there. "I couldn't believe it, Lebron James is the best player in the league and I am going to do everything in my power to make him better."
Though they are deep, Miami really only has 4 starting caliber players. Bigmen Marcus Camby and Pau Gasol, Lebron, and Jason Kidd. So who what is the plan for the other starting spot? "We really like Ruben, he brings Defense and when we get into a 7 Game Series with say Atlanta him guarding Kobe will really help us out" Boen said. "At the same time we are always looking at talent, we have some guys we are looking at so we shall see, though we don't have a lot of give at this point."
Also when asked about some of the other GM's saying "Hand Miami the Title" Boen got a little temper while saying "Phoenix has a damn good team, so does Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, San Antiono, and others. To say we are going to win the title is redundant. Are we one of the best teams in the league? Yes but that's a long way from the title." Whatever happens, Miami sure made a splash getting Kidd.
