ESPN Things have not gone well for Matt Barnes as of late, after being lost in the Nuggets loaded swing man shuffle last year, he finds himself in almost the same situation with his new team the Miami Heat. Barnes signed as a FA with the Heat in the offseason, Heat GM Charles Boen was going to attempt to make Barnes the teams starting 2 guard since Carmelo Anthony was already the SF. It just didn't work out as Barnes played horrible in the off season tournament and was benched, the Heat then traded for Bobby Jackson and then recently Ricky Davis. "I thought it would be good for my career" Barnes said "If I could play the 2 guard and SF I could start for a lot more teams." The Heat also gave him full control of his contract, which was a plus for Barnes "At any point I can opt out after a year, that is nice so I'm not stuck in Miami and at least I know I can't play the 2 now." If asked if he would opt out Barnes said "GM Boen and I had a talk, he understands he needs to trade me asap." The Heat are trying to trade Barnes but have to wait until after the the Dec. 15th deadline to trade FA's. There has been nothing officially offered but I'm sure as the deadline approaches the phones will ring.
