Dallas- The Dallas Mavericks began this season with very high hopes. They had won the Western Conference last year and had come within a game of bringing a World Championship to Dallas. In the offseason the Mavs pulled the trigger on a trade that brought in the best young post player in the league, Dwight Howard. Dwight was to be the anchor of this team in combination with Josh Howard and Rip Hamilton. This team was set for a strong run at this season.
However, 5 games into the season things were not going the way that the Mavs had planned. Josh Howard had turned into a locker room cancer and had lowered team morale and chemistry. Ever since his pot admission, things were not the same in the locker room for the Mavs. He was still producing on the court, but was not fitting in with the team. Five games into the season, the Mavs were an uncharacteristic 2-3. This type of record did not sit well with the Mavs GM. He knew that things had to be done, and that a change had to be made. He knew that he had to trade Howard while his value was still high.
The Mavs GM made that move, and made the Mavs a force to be reckoned with. The Mavs made a blockbuster trade with the Atlanta Hawks that sent Josh Howard, Rip Hamilton; and veterans Jerry Stackhouse and Antonio McDyess to Atlanta. In return the Mavs received Chris Bosh, Manu Ginobili, and Anderson Varajeo.
The Fiery Power Forward will help the Mavs tremendously
Bosh completes a frontcourt for Dallas that had already included Dwight Howard. Now Dallas has the best two low post young big men in the game today. The Bosh-Howard frontcourt is the best in the league and should be unstoppable. They will cause matchup problems for every team. This was shown in there initial game in which Bosh had 27 pts, 15 rebs, and 7 asts; while Dwight had 20 points and 11 rebs. This combo should bring Dallas success for many years to come.
Ginobili knows how to win
Manu Ginobili steps in at shooting gaurd and gives Dallas a proven winner. Manu plays hard everynight and will lead the Dallas backcourt along with Jameer Nelson. He gives the Mavs great balance to their overpowering front court. He should help spread the court and make things easier for CB4 and D12.
Overall this trade just made sense for the Mavs. They now have the two best young big men in the game- and arguably two of the top 5 players in the league. They also received Manu Ginobili in the deal which gives Dallas a threesome to fear. Dallas did lose Josh Howard and Rip Hamilton, along with two veterans coming to the end of their careers. They got younger, more talented, and more athletic; which could prove to be deadly for other teams in the Western Conference. Look for the Mavs to go on a tare with their revamped lineup
