I do apologize that I wasn't able to post the video of this game but NBA Live isn't cooperating. Hopefully this is enough. Enjoy.
Brook Lopez played well and made his first three shots and finished with 6 points and 3 rebounds. He faded after the first few minutes of the quarter and D.J. Augustin took over. He repeatedly created his own shot and finished with 8 points and 3 assists. He and Beasley are the first quarter stars. Beasley scored 8 points on 4-4 shooting and had 7 rebounds. Batum disappointed by shooting 2-7 from the floor and with his penchant for shooting unnecessary fade aways.
The star of the first quarter for the sophomore squad was Rodney Stuckey. He poured in 18 points on 8-12 shooting and was by far their most aggressive player. Durant grabbed 6 rebounds but picked up two offensive fouls and the all powerful Yi Jianlian subbed in for him. Oden grabbed 5 rebounds but didn't get many offensive opportunities while Horford scored 10 points and tore down 4 rebounds.
Batum's emergence, Augustin's continued schooling, and Jordan's ability around the basket were the bright spots during a bad quarter. The rooks were down by a point at the end of the first quarter but find themselves down seven at halftime. They were down eight points during the majority of the first quarter and came back during the last three minutes so don't count the rooks out yet. Augustine still can't be stopped as his 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 7 assists all in the 2nd quarter proves. Batum woke up and put in 7 points but is still looking tentative. Both Batum and Beasley need to step up if the rooks want to compete from here on out.
Horford is still ripping the rooks' bigs (14 points 5 rebounds) and Crittenton had a huge quarter (15 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals. Oden is proving unstoppable around the basket but isn't as dominant on the glass which is surprising. Stuckey continues to play well but Yi won't let Durant back into the game.
Eric Gordon destroyed the sophomores in the 3rd with 16 points and hitting two threes. Batum finally had a good all around quarter but Rose proved he shouldn't have been starting by shooting 1-7 from the field. The rooks continue to trail the sophs and Lopez getting schooled by Yi Jianlian isn't helping. On one series, Yi grabbed a rebound over Lopez, played great defense on Lopez, and then blocked his second chance opportunity. Lopez was seen crying on the bench wailing, "He is just too good. I am no where in his league."
The story of the quarter was Yi. With 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block, Yi destroyed the rookie big men. Stuckey and Crittenton had good quarters and continue to make shots but the rebounding edge for the sophomores is becoming glaringly apparent. This game might be over after all.
O.J. Mayo finally busted through with a productive quarter but it was too little too late. Beasley only played 5 minutes and Augustine shot 2-10 from the field which effectively ended any chances the rooks had at beating the sophomores. Batum finally hit a three but the early lead by the sophs was too much to overcome. Lopez getting destroyed by Yi also was a major factor in the rooks loss. He should be ashamed of himself.
Oden only played 3 minutes because he was in foul trouble and Crittenton had another 3 turnovers but it wasn't enough to cost the sophs the win. Horford had another big quarter with 9 points and 11 rebounds while Yi kept Lopez and Jordan off the boards. Nick Young had a breakout quarter with 10 points and hit multiple open jump shots. Durant played well but he didn't have to be his usually good self this game. The sophs kept answering the rooks runs even as the rooks cut it to a 7 point deficit with the ball.
